Torq Posted January 15, 2011 Report Posted January 15, 2011 Hi Guys, weather permitting, tomorrow I'm going to replace my inner cv joints and rebuid my siezed freewheeling alternator pulley. No, that's not a typo, I'm going to REBUILD the pulley! You see, being the mizer that I am, I hate spending money on parts that can be repaired. I've pulled apart a 4 rib pulley from a Passat and it's made up of a set of spring loaded ramped rollers, simple to repair. Very similar technology can be found in the starter clutch of nearly every 70's big Japanese motorbike. So all going well, the alhambra will be the same and I'll have a write up with pics in the next few days! Torq Quote

Torq Posted March 24, 2011 Author Report Posted March 24, 2011 Sorry for the late reply. Unfortunately I was unable to open the pulley. It's a slightly different design to the 4 rib type and I couldn't risk breaking it on a sunday evening when I needed the car for work on the monday morning. I'll get one from a breakers some time and have a go with it as I'm sure that with a bit of thought I'll be able to free one up. Torq Quote
